Are Rolex Submariners Hard to Find?

Is there a shortage of Rolex submariners

Whether you’re a timepiece enthusiast or someone who wanted a Rolex watch for so long, you’ve probably already heard theories about its scarcity.

So, when did it all start? How hard is it to score a Rolex watch?

Rolex is the most recognised luxury watch brand in the world. Wherever you go, people know it. And chances are, all eyes are on you with this timepiece on your wrist.

Many are dying to get their hands on different Rolex watches but are unable to because of the long waitlists. Owning a watch from the brand can be a long-term mission.

But if you’ve been on the waitlist for so long and see others get their watch already, you might feel upset or annoyed. On the other hand, you’ll find many being sold in the grey market, but at more than double the retail price.

Should you remain patient? Let’s move on to some of the possible reasons why Rolex Submariners and other of its popular models are tough to source.

Possible reasons why Rolex can be hard to find

Here are some of the theories why it could be extremely difficult to get your hands on Rolex watches.

  • Supply is always lower than demand. The demand for Rolex watches keeps on increasing while the supply is always limited. If, before, only the older generations were investing in Rolex watches, now you’ll see even the younger generations expressing their interest in the luxury watch brand. While Rolex continues the production of their watch models, the number they manufacture is still not enough to meet the demand worldwide.  You can only imagine how quickly the watches sell out even before retailers get the chance to display them. If you ask retailers, they may not necessarily be receiving fewer stocks, but they’re receiving a lot more inquiries than they can ever accommodate.
  • Shortage moves from one model to another. If you’ve been eyeing a specific Rolex model for so long and then another model comes with similar looks, you probably will want to invest in the latter instead. That is if it’s any easier to find. As this trend continues, more Rolex models become hard to find. The ‘scarcity’ continues. You’ll find watches in the secondhand market sold at premium prices, which makes you wonder if they’re worth it or are authentic at all. Then maybe you’ll end up staying on the waitlist again to ensure product authenticity.
  • Rolex cannot and won’t keep up with the demand. Here’s another theory you likely have been hearing. Since the ‘scarcity’ seems to be working for the brand, then it’s least likely they’ll increase their production. In addition, having too many watches in circulation may impact the reputation of the watch as being ‘elusive.’

Rolex Submariner being hard to find only highlights its high demand and exclusivity. It’s a great investment if you’re looking for a watch that can serve as an heirloom. In the meantime, try building relationships with authorised retailers in your area to increase your chances of getting the Submariner once it becomes available.
